In my last post I wanted to be clear that we are not perfect and the process to good health and fitness is not perfect.

I don’t want to be perceived as someone like you would see on TV. We see fitness professionals all the time on the news, reality shows and infomercials. You look at them and their perfect bodies and think that they never struggle with their weight, they are never tempted by unhealthy foods and they never just want to veg out on the couch when they should be exercising. We don’t know any of these people personally so we really don’t know if that is true or not. However we are made to think that it is true.

I think this is dangerous. When we see these people as “perfect” it becomes harder for us to live up to their standards. It is hard for me to believe that they are perfect. Maybe they are. Maybe they never touch ice cream. Good for them.

I want you to all know that that is not me. I am a working mom with two kids and a husband who don’t particularly like trying new healthy foods. They want their mac n cheese and pizza etc. I do the cooking and try my best to feed them healthy foods but also keeping in mind what they will actually eat. Working moms know how hard it is to get any food on the table. We just do our best.

I am also what you would call a “foodie”. I love food! I love going to new places and trying new foods. Being from an Italian family I think I could not get away from loving food. So I believe there is a time and place for all kinds of food. I don’t think anything should be labeled as “bad”. I make sure my kids know what is unhealthy but we can still eat a bit of unhealthy food. This is a lot of why I eat so well and exercise most of the time. I want to be able to partake in certain indulgences and still look the way that I want.

So don’t compare yourself to other fitness professionals. We could include celebrities in that as well. Although with celebrities you have no idea if they look the way that they do because of health or unhealthy habits. Your job is just to be as healthy as you can but understanding that life is not perfect. It wouldn’t be any fun if it was anyway!
