Banana Nut Oatmeal

This is something that I love to eat on a cold morning. It is warm, yummy comfort food and good for you! This is a breakfast that I eat when I know I will be teaching dance all morning. I don’t want to be dancing around with little ones hearing my stomach growling! Oatmeal fills you up and keeps you feeling full for a long time. You feel satisfied yet it doesn’t have a lot of calories so you so feel full yet you know you are sticking to your fitness goals!

Make oatmeal according to the package directions. I use organic slow cooking oats, or oat bran. I try to stay away from instant oatmeal. Because it is processed it is higher on the glycemic index and therefore will not keep you feeling full as long as slow cooked oatmeal. Although some people say it is not that big of a difference so if you have to have a really quick breakfast in the morning instant oatmeal is still more beneficial than no breakfast or a high sugar breakfast. Having said that always choose plain instant oatmeal. Instant oatmeal with flavoring contains a lot of sugar.

After the oatmeal is cooked I add a banana or blueberries or both. Any fruit will help sweeten the oatmeal so you do not have to add sugar. Then for extra protein add chopped nuts such as walnuts or almonds. Sometime I will also add a tablespoon of peanut butter or even a half a scoop of protein powder.

This is such a healthy and satisfying breakfast. You will never be left feeling hungry during your morning and it taste great!
