Processed Foods
Processed foods contain high amounts of sugar, fat and sodium. They have usually taken out many of the nutrients and vitamins as well. Feed yourself and your family as little processed foods as possible and eat good, whole foods instead.
I know this is difficult today. We are all too busy to cook a healthy meal let alone sit and eat it together. However it is important that we try to find a way.
I understand how hard it is to feed your family healthy foods. I am a mom of two children, run my own dance school and manage this site as a side business all at the same time. When I was pregnant with my second child, just like many moms out there, the first three months I had morning sickness. As many women know cooking with morning sickness is awful! For those three months all I wanted to do was call up “Pizza Joe” and order a pizza for my family every day. But I knew that was not an option. So I cooked as I gagged. Some days I had to teach during dinner time so I cooked while we had lunch or while my daughter napped and put it in the fridge for the baby sitter. As my kids aged and they were involved in their various activities we still needed to be able to eat home cooked meals. I find the time to cook whenever I can. Cook before you go to bed or before you leave for work in the morning. It may be a challenge but worth it for the health of your family.
Not all packaged and processed foods are unhealthy. You will have to do some searching to find the good ones. Read many labels and look at the sugar, sodium and fat amounts. There are many organic companies trying to make packaged foods that are better for you. When my kids were young we did eat mac and cheese at our house from the box from time to time. However we chose a brand that was organic and much better than the more popular brand.
Start shopping at your local Whole Foods, coop or natural food store. It is much easier to find foods that are less processed. Remember, just because you are at a “health food store” doesn’t mean you can stop reading labels. There are still unwanted fillers in “so called” health or organic foods. Read all labels carefully.
I have a few recipes on this site that are easy and fast. I tell you it is possible. If you are not convinced read my pages on children and fitness. We owe to our kids to do something now!
